Frank Lloyd Wright, on sky arts

fascinating programme about the work of Lloyd-Wright. the controversial  and rule-breaking guggenheim gallery, whose curved walls posed problems for some artists… they called it attention seeking but isn’t that the point? to be eye-catching, and to make a statement? inside the gallery it showed an exhibition, amazingly, the bold building design works very harmoniously with the artwork, in fact the two enhance one another; the visitors appreciate the wonderful curved architecture and consider it too to be a piece of art. great design, allowing you to see works close up, and from a distance as a collection, also very space-efficient. all the art works are illuminated by the central beam of light provided by a beautifully designed sky-light.

my favourite piece of his architecture is a library, in which there are many pillars, and when you look up where they hit the ceiling, you see what look like mushroom tops…very imaginative indeed.
